How to choose the best pillow for a good night’s sleep

What’s the best pillow? Australia, we got’chu.

It’s no big secret we rate a good night’s sleep. In fact, we’re experts on it. Just like you wouldn’t put beat-up wheels on a brand new Mercedes, or serve microwave meals in a Michelin-starred restaurant, it’s not an ultimate sleep experience without the perfect pillows to match your Koala mattress.

We know there isn’t one perfect pillow that suits everyone’s needs. That’s why we created a new range of three pillows, so there is something to suit every type of sleeper out there.

The Koala Pillow

What are the Koala pillows?

Cloudy Pillow

An incredibly soft, fluffy, cloudy pillow (hence the name) but made without the feathers. The Cloudy Pillow is stuffed with a special siliconized microfibre filling that mimics the feeling of animal feathers.

Breeze Pillow

If you love the cool side of the pillow then oh boy, do we have a surprise for you! The Breeze Pillow features a special cooling gel coating that absorbs and releases heat—so it cools down when you need it, and warms up when it’s cold. It’s basically like witchcraft without the fancy spells.

The Koala Pillow

While this isn’t a newbie, it’s a staple in the Koala range. This award-winning and best seller is the all-rounder pillow you’ve been looking for. You can choose between a softer or firmer side making it perfect for all types of sleepers (even all you weirdo stomach sleepers…)

All of our pillows are packed with a whole bunch of features that you probably won’t find in standard pillows such as removable covers, Phase Change Technology, bamboo charcoal foam and fiberfill with an extra layer of supportive foam.

So how can I choose the right pillow?

Well it all depends on a few things. Choosing a pillow is a very personal choice, everyone sleeps differently and has different needs. Koala Product Manager Wendy Dowdeswell says it helps to understand which position you sleep in and what you need.

“Adjusting to your new pillow can take a few days or even a couple of weeks,” says Wendy.

“We suggest having patience and trialing it out for at least one week before deciding if it’s right for you or not. It takes time for your body to adjust.”

Not sure how to choose? Well lucky for you, we’ve created a pillow quiz to help you find your best option.

Breeze Pillow

What is the best pillow for side sleepers?

Wendy reckons the Koala Breeze Pillow is the best for side sleepers.

“The soft memory foam and zoning supports your neck while in the side position. Having your face next to the Phase Change coating is also great to get the best experience,” she says.

The Phase Change coating is the part of the pillow that provides temperature regulation. You can feel the most effect from the coating the closer you are, so by sleeping on your side, this ensures your getting a face full of sweet relief.

What is the best pillow for back sleepers?

The OG Koala Pillow is great for back sleepers because of its zoned memory foam, firmness and loft, ensuring you have enough support when you sleep. As a bonus, Wendy says the Koala Pillow is also a great option for people with neck pain.

“Our original Koala pillow is a great option for customers experiencing neck pain. The memory foam is zoned to ensure there is sufficient support around the edge of your pillow to support your neck while you sleep,” she says.

What is the best pillow for stomach sleepers?

Wendy says the Koala Cloudy Pillow is the perfect match for stomach sleepers. The soft, cloud-like fabric compresses lower to support your head and neck in the front position, and is soft and supple so you can move around with your arms as needed.
