Life a little bit ~fancy~ – introducing Koala’s bouclé furniture
Bouclé burst onto the scene way back in the 1940’s when Eero Saarinen was briefed to create a chair someone could “really curl up in”. The designer took these words v. seriously, creating a brand-new fabric featuring loops of yarn. He dubbed with the French name “bouclé” which translates to ‘curl’ or ‘loop’ (apt, really) and the textural, cosy fabric has been a hot fave Designer’s pick ever since.
Like matching tracksuits, jigsaw puzzles and sourdough starters; bouclé had a wild resurgence in 2020 when folks were relegated to their homes and pining for all things comfy. Which is when our in-house designers went heads-down, bum-up to bring our take on the fabric to the world. Before we dive into our range of boucle furniture, let’s hear from our Director, Product Design – Alexandra Owen – about why this range is so damn spesh.

Cushy Sofa Bed – Luxe Edition
Think the Product of the Year Award-winning, much-loved Cushy Sofa Bed; with a little somethin’ somethin’ extra.
The Cushy Sofa Bed Luxe Edition features a looped finish that uses 30% recycled yarn from plastic bottles. In basic terms, this trending fabric is a whole lot of good for the planet.
And a whole lot of good for your home! The high contrast weave makes it more forgiving in the home (read: kid/pet/red wine-friendly), whilst the heavier weighted fabric and upholstered baseboard makes for a premium feel (read: oh la la fancy).
Stunner Sofa Bed – Luxe Edition
The Stunner Sofa Bed is aptly named. Why? It’s not only our first sofa bed with storage, but also our first elevated sofa bed that models a traditional fold-out sofa bed.
This was new territory for us and means the Stunner Sofa Bed replicates the feeling of being in a real bed (and makes it a hell’uva lot easier to get in and out of).
But! The specialness doesn’t stop there. The Stunner Sofa Bed Luxe Edition is covered in our luxury bouclé fabric which is made with over 20% recycled fibres. A heavier-weight, textured fabric that’s as good for the planet as it is for you? Sign us up.
Bouclé bed frame
Our Good Design Award-winning Paddington Bed Base has been winning hearts and minds all over Australia since it launched in 2021. Made from FSC-certified timber and boasting a totally upholstered frame to avoid ‘shinjuries’ and a perfectly angled headboard to prop you up perfectly – this baby really is a beauty.
One we keep perfecting. After the wild success of our Cushy and Stunner Luxe Editions, we heard it loud and clear that Aussies (that’s you, dear reader) are bonkers for bouclé. So we took the same fabric and technique as the Stunner Sofa Bed Luxe Edition and wrapped the Paddington in it.
The result? A pudgy, glorious bed base worthy of any Bouclé King or Queen. Now you’ll just need the mattress to go along with it!

Our Modern Sofa range is a winner. Literally. This baby took out the 2023 Product Review Awards and has long been a crowd favourite for its generously-sized couch cushions and modular designs to pick the perfect configuration for your place.
